Suburbia is lost

Suburbia has become lost,
or is where one goes to be lost.

Suburbia is exactly where
the sidewalk ends.

People's Choice

As the days fly by,
I almost forgot,
2nd place in People's Choice!
(already into the next show).

Very cool,
a nice aknowledgement,
and thanks to everyone who voted!

You don't 'almost die' on a bike

surprisingly it's not riding in the rain,
or riding late at night,
or even commuting during rush hour.

It's WALKING your bike across the
intersection (due to a flat), and a
jackass makes an illegal right on a red
while on the cell phone & looking right
at me. Unfucking believable!

Or aknowledge the free labor gathering

Still undecided about the whole Major-Newspaper-Gathering-Content-Free

beer is on... me.

new TU post!

NEW POST!

Yeah, only FOUR DAYS behind this week!
At this rate Christmas will be here in a month,
gotta get in the basement and dig out the studded tires!

Bigwheels are cool

Say what you will about Travis, DC Shoes, Rally car racing

Gems on the intra-net

"In her radio show, Dr Laura Schlesinger said that, as an observant Orthodox Jew, homosexuality is an abomination according to Leviticus 18:22, and cannot be condoned under any circumstance. The following response is an open letter to Dr. Laura, written by a US man, and posted on the Internet. It's funny, as well as informative:

Dear Dr. Laura:

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's
Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that
knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend
the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that
Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination ... End of
debate.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other
elements of God's Laws and how to follow them.

1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male
and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A
friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not
Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned
in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a
fair price for her?

3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is
in her period of Menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem
is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it
creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my
neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I
smite them?

5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath.
Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally
obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is
an abomination, Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than
homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there
'degrees' of abomination?

7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if
I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading
glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some
wiggle-room here?

8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the
hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by
Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig
makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two
different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing
garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester
blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really
necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town
together to stone them? Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to
death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep
with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy
considerable expertise in such matters, so I'm confident you can help.

Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and
unchanging.

Your adoring fan.

PS (It would be a damn shame if we couldn't own a Canadian)"

I'ld like more projects please!

After BIKE MONTH I had a little loss of motivation.
By little I mean total.
One part of a mass realization was:
"what am I doing with this blog?"
It's not always bike focused.
It's actually just posts on the randomness of my life,
and a part of my life is that I ride a bike.

So if it's not 100% bike,
who's gonna read it.

So I let it sit for a month.
And I concluded,
who cares?

Liberty on Bikes! is nothing more than the obvious
that being on a bike
gives you liberty.

And this blog is the online diary
of a guy randomly stumbling through life.
Nothing more, maybe alot less.

So after six or seven years,
I finally made some progress in building 'the' ramp.
and it's slowly taking shape.

We have two foster dogs with us.
Yeah, that's nothing new or shocking.
But one reminds us of Pig,
our dog who passed after fourteen years,
and the best dog ever
(everyone uses that, but in this case it's true).

I finally got around to getting a domain name,
and started to build a page for my work,
since that's the first thing I get asked.

Still unsure what to do with the bicycle coalition.
Can't find the motivation or inspiration to make things happen.
I have no dream, therefore no plan.

Broke the phone, but now we're operational.
So the best use of time is to do mobile posts (quality huh?).

And there we go.
It's been a week out from the last post.
I feel like a chef who is making six pots of mac & cheese,
nothing quality & tasty, just time consuming....

Fridays

Stretching out the commute home....

Interviewed

Someone gets interviewed.

During the month of everything bikes.
As I finish a phone conversation about how overextended
I feel between: bike coalition, advocacy, work, foster dogs,
photography, commuting by bike, kid's activities, blogging,
art, house projects, galleries and what seems like a million
other things, I realize maybe I need to do some shedding of
responsibilities, or buy a car.

The other phone rings. I hate phones. They exist on the
same level as cars. I need to get to work. Grab my bag, bike,
and helmet. As I walk out the door, the voicemail chimes.
Caller ID and voicemail make for my own assistant. Check the
message, it's a reporter calling about Bike to Work day. OH!
It's Friday.
It's Bike to Work Day.
But everyday is biking to work day....

We talked for a while as I walked.
Good questions.
Conversation is over.
I start my ride, then realize...
"how will my answers get reworked?",
"will it be out of context?",
"could I have said something better?".
As I pull up to work, I call Tim back.
A good ride opens the mind.
Thoughts are clearer.

Maybe I need to keep this work load.

self imposed exile...

Much like quitting your job,
then realized,
it's not gonna' get any better.
It's another version of the same.

At the heart of "it",
I think I tried to shed the identity of "being a cyclist".
I spent a month borrowing the car to go to work.
Even the camera took some time off.
Painted.
Visited the skate shop, not the bike shop.
Drove to the galleries,
and realized it takes twenty more minutes to find a parking spot,
than to ride my bike there.

Blew off the yearly charity ride,
that has been a staple for the last four years.

MAYBE YOU ALWAYS RODE.
YOU NEVER GAVE UP THE BIKE.

MOST OF US GAVE UP THE BIKE.
Then "rediscovered" it.
Then gave it up again.
And picked it back up again.
The neglected girlfriend that will always take you back.

Everything's OK, right?
