Lucky for me, NYBC'r and cycling instructor, Claire, was passing by,
with tools in pack! Five minutes and a couple links, and I'm on my way!
Not bad luck all of the time I guess.

I suffered a similar lesson
went mountain biking with a loose chain and no 15mm wrench
my rigid single speed dropped its chain more times than I care to recall
